Top Tips
Being a fun and a great dancer is 90% attitude and approach. Some of my tips are just plain commons sense, but due to the nature of Bachata and how close two people can be connected it is even more important to bare in mind the following:
- Do not get too close if person you are dancing with doesn’t feel comfortable. Sometimes it takes a while before someone feels comfortable with dancing close to you. Pay attention to your partners comfort zone. If they are pulling back do not pull forward. Take your time and do not force it. Learn to grow comfortable with people you dance with. (This rule applies to both men and women).
- Guys learn how to develop a good frame for the ladies. Ladies learn to feel comfortable with your partners frame. Like the old saying goes ‘The man is the frame the ladies is the picture’.
- Guys learn how to develop a good clear lead, ladies learn how to develop a smooth and fluid follow. It is this which creates a smooth and pleasant dance!
- Guys it is your role to create the atmosphere of the dance, so be cool, smile and pay attention at leading well. Ladies it is your role to make the dance look beautiful, so smile, shake your hips, let your hair flow and pay attention at following well.
- Dont forget we sweat alot when we dance, so shower before, wear deodorant, use a sweat towel, and bring a change of shirt.
- Ask the DJ to play Bachata as often as possible. It is their Job to play to the crowd so let them know you want to dance Bachata.
- Bachata is a cool dance so dont rush, take small steps, try and dance from the hips and heart, do not focus on moves moves moves, think about moving your body smoothly and above all relax and enjoy it.
- Learning how to move your body well takes practise. Put as much practise into as possible, learn how to develop Contra Body Movements. It is a key to unlocking your body movement.
- When dancing pay attention to the music and try to interpret it. Take some workshops of musical interpretation it will make your dancing more complete.
- Smile, enjoy it! after all it is only a dance!
