Interview with Marco Ferretti
Marco Ferretti is a special Dj in Italy, who has produce what I consider some of the best danceable Bachata and Bachatango tracks in he last couple of years. His New album has been a great work of art and I have had the pleasure of promoting and sharing his music woth so many Bachata lovers worldwide.
Here is my interview with the man himself.
Tony: Hi Marco, thanks for this interview. Now tell us a bit about yourself?
Marco: Hi all, I am 44 years old and I have been DJing since 1979 (Wow… when I think about it, it scares the hell out of me!) I have a diploma in Accounting (When I say that to others, it scares the hell out of them!) plus I also have a degree as a Violinists (hmm… this is not so scary!).
I started DJing Latin music in 1995 in my hometown of Campagna which is in the Alessandria province. There I did a weekly latin night but it wasn’t very big at that time and there wasn’t so many dancers, not like now where there are thousands of dancers and parties every night in Italy and the World.
I have 3 cats, a sausage dog and a 14 month old son named Matteo, who doesn’t walk but already dances!
Tony: How and why did you begin to make Bachata tracks?
Marco: The Bachata, honestly, is very simple to make and it mixes very well with lots of instruments and melodies that we Italians are very used to hearing and using. Where Salsa for example is extremely complex and very few artist in Italy or the World are capable of making it to such a high level that we have become accustomed too.
I do have in future some projects which will include Salsa but I do not feel ready for it just yet and I am learning so much at the moment making Bachata tracks!
Tony: Do you know that ‘Chanson d’amour’ has become a big hit al over the World?
Marco: ‘Chanson d’amour’ is an amazing song, written by Corrado Castellari (Authors of many great songs). So I am not surprised that it has become famous all over the World.
I to be honest only added the Bachata beat to it and it was the beginning of making Bachata tracks, so with very little experience I did it like that. I guess if it was made now in 2008, I might of done something completely different but looking back I guess it is kinda perfect how it is.
Tony: Did you know that your Bachata tracks are being danced by so many Bachata dancers all over the World. How does that make you feel?
Marco: It is always a great feeling to hear this and to know that my music is in the top of the Bachata Charts. It is also a great feeling to travel away from home and dancers some up to me and say “Hey your are Marco Ferretti, Wow…. Can i have your autograph?” I always feel so embarrassed, I still cannot believe people feel that way about my music.
I was in Budapest not long ago and the DJ played ‘Chanson d’amour’… So my girlfriend who is Hungarian went to the DJ and said “Do you know that Marco Ferretti is here?”. So the DJ got so excited and announce it and everyone went crazy and the party turned into an honour for me, I couldn’t believe it I felt as famous as say Michael Jackson. It was incredible I could not believe they much people loved my music, I was filled with joy to see the excitement of the people.
Tony: So tell us alittle bit about your New album?
Marco: My first album and very special for me because it has all the work that I have done up to now in it. It is dedicated to all Bachata lovers around the world including dancers and DJs. It also contains 2 Megamixes which I had alot of fun putting together.
It is so great to see all my work in one CD plus my new track called ‘Misterio’ which will be raleased as a single with 4 remixes by 4 different DJs.
Tony: Do you have any new project in the works?
Marco: For now I am producing my New single ‘Misterio’ which I have made in collaboration with Latingroove and it is due to be realeased on the New Salsa.it Vol.5. I am also in the process of making a beautiful track called ‘Yo Estoy Aqui’, which will probably be sang by the well known Pedrito Calvo Jr and his sister, Liuba Calvo. They are both children of the World Famous Pedrito Calvo from Los Van Vans.
We are preparing also a Italian Tour with Pedrito to promote the song and the choreography will be done by Famous Italia dancers (D&G) Daniela and Graziano. We hope that we will be touring this winter but it is a long and difficult project to produce.
Tony: Do you have any advice to give to the Bachateros/as of the World?
Marco: I actually want to give advice to dancers in general. Dont ever give up the love for dancing and being the best you can be, but most of all dont forget that dancing is all about fun.
One of the worst things I see on the dancefloor when I DJ is; people who do not smile, do not have fun and only try to show off as if they are participating in a World Dance Championship. Dance is about letting go and enjoying the music, the atmosphere and being with people.
Tony: Thank for sharing your thoughts with us Marco, have you any last words?
Marco: I would like to say to everyone who loves great music, to enjoy it, support it and not to be too concerned by who it is by or what style it is or where it came from, if you like it then thats whats important.
